The Difference Between Lithium Battery and Lead Acid Battery

2022-11-09 10:36:00

Lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries are the most common types of batteries in daily life, mainly used in the field of electric vehicles. The main differences between them are electrode material, weight, number of charges, battery capacity, recycling value, etc. Next, let's introduce it in detail!

Electrode Material & Battery Capacity

The positive and negative materials of lithium batteries are generally lithium metal or a lithium alloy, and the electrolyte is a non-hydrolyzable solution. The electrode materials of lead-acid batteries are generally lead and their oxides, and the electrolyte is a sulfuric acid solution. The capacity of lithium ones is generally 8~10A. The capacity of lead-acid batteries is generally 18~20A.

Weight & Price

Under normal circumstances, the weight of the assembled lead-acid battery is about 15~30 kg. The lithium battery is relatively light at 3 to 10 kg. Since the cost of electrode materials, electrolytes, separators, and other materials used in lithium ones is higher than that used inside lead-acid batteries, the former is more expensive than the latter.

Number of Charges & Recovery Value

The lithium battery used in electric vehicles has a cycle charging life of about 1000 times without a memory effect. The lead-acid battery is only charged about 600 times and has a memory effect.

Due to the memory effect of lead-acid batteries, their lifespan is about 2 years. The lithium battery is about 4 or 5 years. And lead-acid batteries can be repaired again, so they have a high recycling value. Lithium batteries are irreversibly damaged and have low recycling value.
